Bucks usually begin growing new antlers in April.

To be able to hunt by yourself after the age of 12 in Iowa requires a hunter education certificate and the proper licenses. Children can hunt with a legally licensed adult without the certification but the official adult:child ratio is 1:1 in Iowa while hunting. As always check the Iowa hunting regulations or call your local Conservation Officer if you have any questions.

Length of Whitetail Gestation Period: 6-1/2 months. Fawns are typically born in May, June and July.

Rub: A buck rubs his antlers on a tree during the mating season.

The mating season is often referred to as 'the rut'.

We encourage all hunters to give a child a chance to

participate. The best teacher is experience.
